the meeting (for deb and david)
===============================
a woman blows a candle out
by the side of her bed.
she thinks that all this loneliness
is going to her head.
she wishes she could find someone
who cares as much as her
(but) she knows she must take great care
as she had to be sure
+
she knows she's getting older now -
much faster than before
and she knows she's not the woman
that she was at twenty-four.
the lines on her face are deep
and getting much more wide.
all she wants is someone equal
to lay by her side...
+
+
a man who deceives himslef and
the people he's around
tries to love someone but
no love is ever found.
he tries to find a woman
with whom he'll share his fate
but his love is infatuation
which sometimes comes out as hate.
+
he lives at the bars at night
and works all through the day.
the bars are his only hope
to try and get away.
he hopes somewhere along the line
he'll slam into some love.
his hopes turn (in)to drunken prayers
to heavens far above...
+
+
just two lonely people,
this woman and this man..
she goes out to a bar one night.
he's waiting with his van.
she plays hard to get with him
while he tries to turn her on.
the waitress brings their drinks to them
but the two of them are gone.
+
by now several months go by
and she couldn't ask for more.
the love of a common man
she finds she's falling for.
he tries to feel the same for her
but it's just not the same
but he's never been this happy
until this union came...
+
any instrumental break
+
he slips out of the room one night
and simply walks away.
she senses he's not gone for good
but he'll be back someday.
she swims within her optimism
knowing that she's right,
but he has other things in mind
as he slips into the night.
+
and so we move along a year
or two or three or four.
there's a heavy stillness in the air,
then a knock at her door.[pause]
[to anti-climactic instrumental ending]
