Rear-view Mirror (G. Wade, originally as part of the Landwave project) ---------------- driving through darkness the same sign shining past again and again the highway seethes with contempt for me tonight (but this is nothing new) and i fear that the breaks in the lines will conquer me / eventually and i'll be wrecked in the woods in the daylight (but this is nothing new) the rear-view mirror offers no company there was a time i would have loved this a time when an act required no goal the years when i thought i was above this before the miles would take their toll darkness and distance provide some cloaking but time only moves with each state line hence the formula is broken and i'm left to measure in my mind the rear-view mirror offers no new ideas i realize that everyone gets older but why does the rate increase at night? when age storms forth like a soldier sometimes it's easier not to fight but i don't agree with my sentence the punishment doesn't fit the crime so if you were hoping for repentance your reward won't come in time the rear-view mirror offers no parole
